“"People often say that humans have always eaten animals, as if this is a justification for continuing the practice. According to this logic, we should not try to prevent people from murdering other people, since this has also been done since the earliest of times."

Hello Susan, you are right on with what you are saying. The only regret that I have with regards to being vegetarian/vegan is that I didn't do it sooner, like you as a teenager or never ate meat my entire life even from the womb!!! I would have been happy having a family that was vegetarian. I was wrong growing up and eating meat, milk, and eggs. So in trying to raise your children vegan/ vegetarian that must be the greatest gift that you can bestow on your kids. I have been vegetarian for about 12 years or so. Even before that I trying to cut down on meat/animal products. I am 47 years old. I even have been trying to cut out the non meat animal products. And you are right again. It can be difficult to find certain products that don't come from animals. It can be difficult at family gatherings and at work. People can act like you said do I have three heads funny. One of the questions that I am asked is why? Health, spiritually, mentally, karma? At first some are not quite sure, but once they know or learn about me then it's easier. After a time the response is oh I know you're vegetarian. Your site and message made it seem like you are kindred spirit and perhaps that is what I need is someone to talk with that sees things closer to the way that I see them. I believe that being Vegan/vegetarian is a big part of what life is about. Thanks for your site. I would love to hear back from you. I am still striving to be a better person. OK, what is the vegan secret? Take care, Chrissy

Hi. I am a 27 y/o newly vegan. I've been a vegetarian for several years and I just converted to veganism last month! I was reading your bio and the part about you having children that you couldn't raise the way you wanted to, caught my eye. May I ask why that was? The reason I'm asking is because I too am married to a man who is neither vegan nor vegetarian. We have no kids but would like some eventually. Overall he's pretty supportive of my lifestyle but there was one time that we discussed having kids and I told them I wanted to raise them vegan (or at least vegetarian) and he got upset and told me there's no way he's depriving our children of meat (which of course is ridiculous). Anyway, I was wondering if you had any thoughts about this considering you were in a similar situation and are currently married to a non-vegan. I have a hard time accepting me bringing children into this world that will consume animals and my husband does not understand. Thank you.

Hello Susan Thank you for your kind words concerning my website, I’m afraid I have neglected it over recent months as I have been heavily involved in AR blogging, I really needs a overhaul. Might I just say that your website is very eye-catching and your recipes are excellent, I was also very heartened to hear that you also had an involvement in religion, I too had a lot of early training in it and I have since used it to good effect when talking with sincere church goers, some of which are now expressing a degree of agreement with the vegan path. Perhaps you also have recognized that religion has a lot to answer for in its preaching the to support the justification of exploitation animals, yet through the efforts of organisations such as ourselves we have the opportunity of having a share in helping people see just how far away from mercy and compassion the teachings churches are at the present time, I have always been convinced that these are the very ones that should be reasoned with first as they still play a large part in everyday life, and are often considered to be the conscience of the nation. My wife was several years behind me in recognizing the benefits vegetarianism but she is now almost vegan and although at first it was hard for her to see how it all applied, thankfully she gradually started to soften and she sees how her health is now benefiting by considering other creatures.. I really do hope that you too are eventually blessed with the happiness of having your husband join you in becoming vegan, and that you also have good success in your quest in behalf of exploited creatures, >9Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. 10So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith. HI Susan! Saw your link of veggie boards ....Wow - you're website shows hatfield PA? I work with a family biz in North Wales and live in Spring Mount with my glass studio and dog. Currently I know NO other vegans around here!!! I really enjoyed checking out your website and was able to relate with most of your background - however I was raised without religious direction and have found myself in the space between jainism - buddhism. But the childhood tears of trying to figure out what to eat - OM gosh ... I am a gal in mid 30's and have been "official" veg since about 16... got my mum to go veg last T-day! YEAH ! Anyhowse .... just wanted to say HELLO! And if you have not - perhaps you could take your husband on a date to thank him for his support and visit the "blue sage cafe" in southampton ... worth the ride! GREAT VEGAN FOOD!!!!! (and most non vegans agree about the great food - check out their site). Please, Feel free to drop a line - alway be nice to touch base with a local veg. jane mary

Hello Susan! Right now I am in Maine and I've had some trouble getting internet service but finaly it's worked out! I'm glad to share my "vegetarian story" with you to use for your website... Mike has been reminding me and now I have the chance! Growing up, especially very young, I always ate meat. To me, meat was simply food with a name: pork chops, burgers, hot dogs, etc. That is, until my sister started talking to me. She's been my biggest influence throughout my life. She became a vegetarian at twelve, when I was just nine and not long after she became a vegan. I did not quite understand what being a vegetarian meant. But when I turned eleven, things started changing. Pork chops and hot dogs meant "pigs". Burgers and steak meant "cows". Chicken, fish, crab, they were all innocent, once living, animals. It was lunchtime in fifth grade. The meal: hotdogs. I bought lunch and took a seat. I took a bite, set it down and looked at the food sitting in front of me. But it wasn't food to me then. It was an animal. I decided that would be the last meat I would ever consume. There has been a lot of meat to this day that I have never tried and never will. And I decided this at eleven. For me, it all comes down to this: Why am I superior to this animal? The majority of people have the mindset that animals are inferior. If someone is "treated like and animal" they are treated poorly. Why is this? I view living beings, animals and people, as equal. I wouldn't eat my cat for dinner, I wouldn't eat my friend, I wouldn't eat a cow. Some people may say, "Well of course you wouldn't eat your cat or your friend!" Why is a cow any different? People need to better understand the feelings of others, both humans and animals. They have families and emotions. Tell me you have never seen a scared animal and never yourself felt scared? These emotions are the same. If this seems like a hardship and you wonder, "What can you even eat?" you'd be very surprised. If vegetarianism or veganism is something that has crossed your mind, research it, and do it for the right reasons. Don't think of it as a task to overcome. Think of all the reasons why you feel it is right. VeganSecret.com is just one small secret in a mass of others out there willing to inform and aid people. If so many others can do it, so can you!

Hi Susan, Thank you so much for visiting my website. Your comments made my day!! Thank you! Your website is a beautiful effort and it has so much to offer. It kind of reminds me of mine a little. I admire vegans, so I admire you! I have been vegetarian going on 11 years now. It's a step in the right direction for now but I do have hopes of becoming vegan one day. As of May 2008, I have cut out/cut down on my consumption of eggs - at least in the direct form. So that is another plus. Your words were very uplifting today. Thank you for that and for caring enough to take action and help educate others. We need more people like *us* in the world. Also, thank you for your comment regarding LinkReferral, I appreciate that very much! Do you advertise your website on your car? I do. I try to do everything I can to get the word out, I even make up little flyers with Printshop. If you're interested in vinyl decals, check out http://customvinyldecals.com I use them and am very happy with them. They are very reasonable also. Good Luck with everything! I hope many people will visit and decide to take action to help. Would you like to do a Link Exchange? I would be honored to add you to my "Partners" page. I will also add a link to your site from my vegan page. Let me know if you're interested. Take Care.

Hi, You have a great website. I just got done weeping after reading your story about driving your kids to school and seeing the animals being transported to the Hatfield meat plant. I feel the same way about this horrendous problem. I too cannot understand how people can do it. Did you ever hear of Farm Sanctuary? They are a wonderful group of people who have a rescue organization in NY state and CA. They are doing alot for the animals. I think slowly people are becoming more aware, but it's too slow for my liking. When I try to tell others about it they get very defensive. I wish we could just drive around and show videos on the streets so people can't help but see what is going on! Keep up the good work. Cyndi

Thanks for sharing your vision and enthusiasm! I'm a vegan newbee. I'm looking for a good source of texturized vegetable protein - the grocery store products (morning star and others) are so expensive! Any resources you recommend? Thanks! Carolyn

In the wake of the HSUS Chino slaughterhouse investigation, several members of Congress are now calling for
video cameras to be installed at slaughterhouses. Naturally, the USDA is dead set against this. Here is an
opportunity to grab ahold of this issue and take advantage of this window of opportunity It's unanimously
agreed (if veg*an or not) that the animal agriculture industries from factory farms to the arbittior has
"fox in the hen house status". This pending legislation is pivotal on many levels of reasoning: Of course
for the welfare of the animals, for "food" safety, and lastly, because "if slaughterhouses had glass walls
we would all be vegetarian" Paul McCartney Video cameras is certainly a step in a better direction for all
concerned.... Ahhh.... except for the meat industry that is. I also ha ve a petition which is getting lots of
positive response: Click Here for Petition
Spreading the word on this would be a great help - Thanx
